Kill the DJ lyrics by Green Day
Kill the DJ could almost be described as dance song but featuring power-drill guitars. Billie Joe described to Rolling Stone Magazine that Mike asked him to "write a song with a four-on-the-floor rhythm." He suggests Kill the DJ is 'kind of like Sandinista!, Ian Dury's "Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll" and the Tom Tom Club song, "Genius of Love."'
Who is the DJ that Green Day want to kill?
Billie Joe has said that the song is about 'static and noise' and that it's 'a song about being drunk, going through this chaos, feeling fucked up and all you want to do is get more drunk: "I don't even want to know about it anymore."'

Kill the DJ lyrics from Green Day's Uno album.
(This is a rough as guts version . Please leave corrections in the comments!)
Walking after dark
In the New York City park
Your thoughts are so unholy
In the holiness of old
On with Christian soldiers
Filled with jivin' mind control
The bull left on the dance floor
Ridin', runnin' red
The bullet that you asked for's killing you to death
Unless you....
Someone kill the DJ, someone shoot the DJ
Someone kill the DJ, someone shoot the DJ
Someone kill the DJ, someone shoot the DJ

Someone kill the DJ, someone shoot the DJ
Voices in my head are saying, "Shoot the DJ down."
We are the vultures
The dirtiest kind
They cut you once
In your heart and your mind
Walking after dark
In the New York City park
I'll pick up what's left in the club, a pocket full of pills
Sodom and Gommorah, in the century of thrills
The bull left on the dance floor
Ridin', runnin' red
The bullet that you asked for, killing you to death
Unless you…
Someone kill the DJ, someone shoot the DJ x three
We are the vultures
The dirtiest kind
They cut you once
In your heart and your mind
Walking after dark
In the New York City park
I'll pick up what's left in the club, a pocket full of pills
Sodom and Gommorah, in the century of thrills
The bull left on the dance floor
Ridin', runnin' red
The bullet that you asked for, killing you to death
Unless you…
Someone kill the DJ, someone shoot the DJ x three
Hold him under water til he suffocates and drowns
We are the vultures
The dirtiest kind
We'll cut you once
In your heart and your mind
We are the vultures
The dirtiest kind
We'll cut you once
In your heart and your mind
OOOHHHHHHH
Shit's about to get you boy
Shoot the DJ down
Shit's about to get you boy
Shoot the DJ down
Repeat chorus
Voices in my head say shoot the DJ down
Check out the lyrics to another song from Greenday's Uno album, Fuck Time.

this song is kinda catchy, diff for Greenday but I like it. It's only rock n roll but I like it.

ReplyDeleteway catchy, even for GD
ReplyDeleteThe Chorus origynally is:
ReplyDeleteSomeone kill the DJ, Shoot the F**king DJ
Someone kill the DJ, Shoot the F**king DJ
Someone kill the DJ, Shoot the F**king DJ
Voices in my head are saying, "SHoot That F**ker Down."
Onward Christian soldiers... the blood left on the dance floor running running red...the culture war's in your heart and your mind...Someone's gonna get you boy... The 1st verse, the jiving part, doesn't seem right to me but I don't know what it is lol but I'm fairly sure about the rest of it :) hope it helps!
ReplyDeleteThe album version is SOOO much better than the radio edit.

I think "Bull" in the section: "The bull left on the dance floor
ReplyDeleteRidin', runnin' red" is actually supposed to be the word "blood".
This isn't the album version, its the radio edit, if you want the original version this is the chorus:
ReplyDeleteSomeone kill the DJ, Shoot the f***ing DJ
Someone kill the DJ, Shoot the f***ing DJ
Someone kill the DJ, Shoot the f***ing DJ
Voices in my head are saying Shoot that f***er down
and where you've put "hold him underwater 'til he suffocates and drowns" its:
Hold him under water 'til that motherf***er drowns
:-)
It's 'diamond mind control' :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymousAugust 14, 2012 3:46 PM's version matches almost exactly with what I hear.
ReplyDelete"On with Christian Soldiers" is definitely "Onwards Christian Soldiers"
"We'll cut you once" is "The culture war's"
"Unless you..." sounds more like "And lets see" to me, though I'm far less sure of this one.
"In the holiness of old" could be "in the holiest of old" - there is definitely no "n" pronounced, nor is there a final "t" - so either fits with the audio. One we have a live version to listen to we'll know, but it would be harder to miss the "n" in holiness than it would be to end an "st" word with just an "s."
It's very un-GreenDay-ish, but I like it! Sounds a bit like Maroon Five :)
ReplyDeleteits not at all GD
ReplyDeleteWho cares? It's awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey, Jack White, what is this, a fucking...
ReplyDeleteyou know what, Green Day, just go lick your own cocks and FUCK yourself with this "I Bought Piranhas" horseshit
I swear to Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior that I am sick of this fucking copy-paste fucking album already
Please just STOP all the fucking drinking and write ONE good song, for the love of GOD, dude
(And I also LOVE the White Stripes almost as much as I love Green Day, too, you drunk fucking out-of-control fucking drug-user fucking asshole, what is this bullshit for real)
